GLAD Clinic
Dr Stephen Chang is the Medical Director of the GLAD Clinic. He is a general surgeon and subspecializes in laparoscopic surgery, management of gall bladder, liver, pancreatic and digestive diseases as well as abdominal wall hernia conditions.
Dr Stephen Chang graduated with MBBS at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1994 and obtained his Master of Medicine (Surgery) in 2000 from NUS. Having become a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in 2003, he furthered his training in laparoscopic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, and liver transplantation in Paris, France.
Dr Chang pioneered the single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) in Singapore and was the first few to publish his experience in single incision laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, liver resection and pancreas resection in the world.
He has published widely in this ‘scarless’ laparoscopic approach, proving that it is safe, reduces pain and recommended by all his patients who had undergone surgeries through this approach. As such, it is the technique of choice for almost all of his gallbladder and appendix surgeries.
He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in NUS and has more than 100 publications in both clinical and Medtech research and has since filed >5 patents in these areas. With these endeavours, he hopes to improve the care of patients.
Dr Chang is the founding president of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Association of Singapore. During his 4-year tour as president, he spear-headed the Liver Disease Awareness Week where he raised funds to provide free hepatitis B screening for Singaporeans.
Dr Stephen Chang is also active in medical missions in Cambodia, Thailand, Iran, Indonesia and Timor Leste. He is a co-founder of a Medical Aids by SG Knights which helped to ease the mask shortage and COVID situation during the earlier days of the pandemic.
He is currently practising at Farrer Park Hospital and Mt Elizabeth Hospital.
